Genetic Screening
I carefully screen all parent dogs for common genetic health conditions in dachshunds, including intervertebral disc disease, hip and elbow dysplasia, and von Willebrand’s disease. This process includes thorough genetic testing and obtaining health clearances from trusted organizations such as the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and the Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF).
When selecting breeding dogs, I prioritize maintaining the breed standard set by the American Kennel Club (AKC). I assess their size, body structure, coat, and overall appearance to ensure they embody the true characteristics of the dachshund breed.
Health History Review
I carefully examine each dog’s health history and lineage for any genetic disorders or health issues to ensure I choose the healthiest dogs for breeding.
